みんなさん、こんにちは!

My name is Yulia Bondarenko and I’m a Ukrainian girl, that one day decided to become artist, illustrator and did it. But how it relates to everything that you see on this website? My personal journey with Japanese started in 2015, when I was inspired by animation of Hayao Miyazaki and the powerful stories of Japanese people, who found the inner strength to overcome the Great Earthquake in north-eastern Japan. Of course I wanted to speak, write and read in Japanese. But despite the fact, that I have been teaching Japanese calligraphy, I forget kanji so quickly as I learnt them. I was disappointed…So I was looking for the answer, how I can fix hieroglyphs in my mind on Youtube, websites.

Natives declared WRITE, WRITE, WRITE! All Japanese write a lot. And I follow this advice. But after a short time I wrote kanji automatically, and my covered with kanji pages became just garbage, that gave me NO result. And saying the truth, how many people can spend hours for writing kanji every day? Maybe, a few… Fortunately I opened for myself the method called mnemonic, that engages your imagination, emotions in the learning process. Also I realized the importance of knowing kanji’s radicals, that are the bricks for building hieroglyphs. Just realize, you mostly need to remember only 214 radicals to master thousands kanji! These revelations I combined in the project “Maji-kanji” using my artistic skills.

I don’t promise you a magic pill. Anyway the leaners should use kanji to memorize them. But I sincerely hope, that using “Maji-kanji” source to save your time, make your learning enjoyable and develop more your creativity!

What does it mean マジ漢字 “Maji-kanji”?

I didn’t find it in my dictionary…strange

It’s a remake of a popular Japanese sleng, that sounds マジマンジ. Japanese young people use this word, when they feel cool, have a positive feelings or excited about some things. So I just replaced マンジ, that means itself "Buddhist swastika", with sounded similarly 漢字 かんじ, having in mind that マジ means “serious”. And we got マジ漢字 (Maji-kanji) serious learning of Japanese hieroglyphs, that make you feel cool, amazing!

What I’m doing now…

I’m teaching Japanese in my own Japanese school “Satori”, conducting Japanese calligraphy workshops and drawing, drawing for my customers around the world.
